The Highlights

Welcome to different world, a world where colors are more vivid, culture more fascinating and history much more intriguing. Welcome to the world of Vietnam, the latest Asian dragon to awake from its sleep. Nature has blessed the country of Vietnam in many ways with a bountiful harvest. With stunning mountains like Hoang Lien and a diverse coastline with beaches like Quy Nhon and Nha Trang, Vietnam is absolutely stunning. Covered from head to toe with a patchwork of lots of emerald-green rice fields, timelessly looked-after by peasant women in the famous conical hats, Vietnam invites you to visit.

A bit of History

The lengthy conquest of Vietnam by France began in the year 1858 and was partially completed by 1884. The country subsequently became a part of French Indochina. After World War II, Vietnam declared independence, however, France continued to rule the country until its 1954 defeat by the Communist forces under Ho Chi Minh. Under the 1954 Geneva Accords, Vietnam was divided into the Communist North and anti-Communist South. Economic and military aid from the United States to the South grew steadily through the 1960s in an attempt to bolster the anti-Communist government, but much of the US forces were withdrawn following a cease-fire agreement in 1973. Just two years later, forces from North Vietnam overran the South, reuniting the country under Communist rule. Despite the gradual return to peace, for much of the following decade the country reported little economic growth because of very a lack-luster leadership by the ruling Communists. However, since the enactment of Vietnam's self-proclaimed "doy moy" (renovation) policy in 1986, Vietnam’s ruling party has committed the country to increased economic freedoms and started structural reforms badly needed to modernize the economy. Since then, Vietnam has become an exporting powerhouse and is reporting growth rates among the highest in South-East Asia.
