Overview
The archipelago of the Seychelles lies in the Indian Ocean
and consists of 115 coral islands. The beaches are among
the most beautiful in the world. There are more shades of blue and green
in the Seychelles than one can imagine. The water is crystal clear, the
people are friendly and nature is at its best. And the local seafood is
just beyond "aroi". The Seychelles are as
close to paradise as you can get on this planet. And they are not as far
away from Bangkok as you might think.
A bit of History
A fairly lengthy struggle between
France and the United Kingdom for the islands ended in 1814, when the UK
won them. Independence won't be reached until 1976. Socialist rule was
brought to an end with a brand new constitution and free elections in 1993.
President France-Albert Rene, who had served since 1977, remained in
office until 2004. Vice President James Michel took over
the presidency and is still serving today. This gives you an idea that
things don't change very quickly in the Seychelles.
