The Highlights
Canada is a big and very
diverse country with a stunning scenery. If you go there, be sure to
explore various regions. Vancouver is a great city to spend a few days
in. From there you can easily explore the rest of the country. How about
taking the train? Or spend a night with the Eskimos? Camping is also a
good idea and this will give you a chance to see the Grizzly bears. How
about going to Quebec to get a chance to practice your French and listen
to songs from Celine Dion? And before you come back, a few days of
shopping in Toronto. Sounds like a plan?
A bit of History
A country of great
distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing
body in 1867 while still keeping ties to the British crown. Economically
and technologically Canada has developed in parallel with the United
States, its neighbor to the south across a largely unfortified border.
The country faces the political challenges of meeting increasing public
demands for quality improvements in health care and education as well as
dealing with separatist movements in the predominantly francophone
Quebec region. Canada also aims to develop its diverse energy resources
while maintaining its firm commitment to the environment.
How to Get There
Vancouver tends to be the
gateway to Canada for travellers from Asia. There are currently no
nonstop flights between Bangkok and Vancouver or any other destination
in Canada. However, good connections with
All Nippon Airways via Tokyo,
EVA Air
via Taipei or
Philippine Airlines via Manila exist. There is also the
opportunity to catch an Air Canada flight from Tokyo or Seoul.
