Overview

Austria is acting like a bridge connecting Western Europe with Eastern Europe. At this bustling crossroads of so many cultures, this small country has a lot to offer for visitors. Impressive architecture, long musical tradition as well as a stunningly beautiful countryside make Austria a perfect place to visit almost all year round. The small but fascinating capital Vienna is a lovely town and also makes for a great gateway to explore the rest of this great little country.

A bit of History

Once the very center of power for the past Austro-Hungarian Empire, Austria has been reduced to a small republic soon after its defeat in World War I. Following annexation by Nazi Germany in the year 1938 and the subsequent occupation by the winning Allies in 1945, the country's status remained unclear for almost a decade. A State Treaty that was signed in 1955 ended the occupation, recognized Austria's independence and did not allow for unification with Germany. A prosperous, democratic country, Austria has entered the EU's Economic Monetary Union in 1999, adapting the Euro has its official currency.

How to Get There

Austrian Airlines has daily nonstop flights from Bangkok to Vienna and also EVA Air is operating nonstop flights a few times per week. Both airlines usually have promotion airfares to Vienna in low season. There is also the option of flying with an airline that offers connecting flights between Bangkok and Vienna like Qatar Airways or Egyptair. And among the cheapest options from Bangkok to Salzburg in Austria is Ukraine's Aerosvit Airlines
