Thailand hosts a major incoming tourism market, hence the country is liked by
air to many major cities all around the world. Most international flights into
Thailand will land at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport. However, there are also
international flights to Thailand’s provincial cities like Chiang Mai or Phuket.
Thailand is served by many international airlines from all five continents. The
majority of international destinations are served by Thailand’s national carrier
Thai Airways. The flag carrier offers a vast network of flights to all four
corners of the globe. Most routes are served by multiple airlines with wither
nonstop flights or connecting flights. So as competition to/from Bangkok is
usually fairly tough, fares are reasonable.
Thailand has also many domestic flights operated by Thai Airways, Nok Air, Thai
Air Asia, One-Two Go and Bangkok Airways. Bangkok is liked by air
services to all major towns within Thailand. On trunk routes like to Chiang Mai
or Phuket, many airlines offer multiple daily flights. While international
flights always operate from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport, domestic flights
either operated from Suvernabhumi airport or Don Muang airport. Passengers
should make sure they know from which airport their domestic flight within
Thailand departs.
There are also provincial flights within Thailand, i.e. domestic flights that do
not involve Bangkok as an origin or destination. Chiang Mai is a regional hub
that provides short-haul flights to Thailand’s northern cities that aren’t
served by nonstop flights from Bangkok.
Happy Air and Solar Air provide such regional
flights.
There a few air charter businesses in Thailand that do offer charter flights,
however, their operations are quite small.
Balloon flights are available in the North of Thailand. Operators are located
around Chiang Mai.
Scenic flights in Thailand are not popular.
