Flights from Bangkok either operate from Don Muang airport or Suvarnabhumi
airport. Currently, Don Muang is exclusively used for domestic flights from
Bangkok to destinations within Thailand. Nok Air and One-Two Go are airlines
operating flights from Don Muang. The airport to the north of Bangkok. It’s IATA
aiport code is DMK. Suvarnabhumi airport is the major gateways from Bangkok to
the world and handles both domestic flights within Thailand as well as all
international flights to and from Bangkok. It lies on the Bangkok-Trad highway
to the South-West of Bangkok. The IATA airport code is BKK. Suvarnabhumi airport
just has one terminal of it’s easy to get around and also to connect between
flights, even if the flights are operated by different airlines.
The biggest airline in Bangkok is of course Thai Airways, Thailand’s national
carrier. TG is offering many flights to destinations within Thailand as well as
abroad. Other big operators include Bangkok Airways, Thai Air Asia and Cathay
Pacific.
Passengers to and from Bangkok usually have a choice between flights operated by
low-cost airlines or flights operated by full service airlines. Fares are low on
both types of airlines. And because most passengers to/from Bangkok are leisure
passengers, also Business Class fares are reasonable.
Flights are hardly delayed in Bangkok. Unlike Hong Kong or other major airports
in Asia, Bangkok usually does not see any typhoons or other severe weather
conditions. Tropical thunderstands do visit Bangkok during the rainy season (May
to September) then can lead to flights being delayed.
Thailand's policy towards avaition is pretty liberal. Any airline that wishes to
operate flights into Bangkok will have no problems securing the relevent traffic
rights that will enable them to operate domestic or international filghts into
Bangkok.
Air traffic congestion is a growing problem. although Suvarnabhumi has only been
in operation for a few years, the airport is already reaching its limit on daily
flights. Already now, during peak hours of the day (e.g. around midnight),
Bangkok's major international airport is no longer able to accommodate new
flights.
